Opportunity: The Health Guide was designed to help seniors stay in their homes longer with chronic conditions by offering technology to help keep them safe at home. By using a daily health check in, seniors with conditions like COPD and diabetes could be closely monitored between visits and seen before a situation becomes acute.
Process: Research was conducted at a care site on the east coast in the US, in homes in Portland, OR and provider offices in the UK to understand both the cultural issues around the launch as well as any technical issues.

- In the UK, outlets are turned off by wall switches when not in use, which prohibits auto uploading of information critical to the success of the device.
- A video option was appealing to some and confusing to others. It wasn't always clear it was a health only device and seniors hoped to video chat with family and friends.
- There were significant issues with set up and it was clear there would need to be support for installation.
